This is a post for Five Minute Fridays Link-up. It’s a five-minute free write using the prompt provided by our host Kate Motaung. This week the prompt is BEFORE. You can also find me on the Write 28 Days Blogging Challenge hosted by Anita Ojeda, I’m #13 there.
My five minutes start now…
Before Jesus, I was just me. A Catholic girl from birth, trying to do all the things right, not really understanding why. By the way, I didn’t do all the things right.
So many years later I found Jesus while sitting on my couch, with my four-year-old son on my lap, watching Billy Graham on TV.
Something happened that night in the glow from the TV screen. I heard His voice, like a whisper deep in my heart. Come to me and I will give you rest.
The years had been busy with work, school, and a constant pressing for more, and with this last child 21 years after my first, I was feeling a pull toward rest.
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
That day, I prayed the sinner’s prayer and received Jesus as my Lord and Savior while sitting on my couch, with my four-year-old son on my lap, watching Billy Graham on TV.
After Jesus, anything is possible.
…time’s up!
Thanks for your conversion story. Loved it!
It remains a special moment shared with my son.

I am Catholic from First Day
and perhaps I am a trope;
if you want trouble, then just say,
“To h*** with the bloody Pope!”
I have plaster saints a-plenty,
and I pray to Holy Mary
with a mien most reverent-y,
stepping from the ordinary
to a place most organized,
but not lacking in some fun;
though teetotalers may despise,
I get drunk with priests and nuns.
Some may call my life quite crass
but I always still suit up for Mass.
I rather like the reverence and hymns of the Catholic mass. That is something different about other Christian denominations. Praise music is nice but I miss the hymns. Thanks for visiting.
Wow. Jesus sitting on your couch. Awesome!
I have 18 years from first to last, so you beat me 😉 but understand completely x FMF #26
Yep! It was pretty amazing and, as always, His timing was perfect. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Before we knew Him we were different. WITH Him we are forever changed. I love that you accepted the Lord through the TV evangelist! We all have our own unique story of salvation. Thank you for sharing yours! I accepted Jesus at a youth camp when I was about 14. I remember it clearly, and I love that He is my Savior for all time. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family!

The beautiful truth is that Jesus is with us at the moment of salvation, where ever we happen to be. Thanks for sharing your salvation moment.
It’s such a profound verse, that one – I’m still finding new things in it to learn and apply.
