Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I have every reason to praise God and no reason to complain. He has given me everything I have. My husband and my children, even before that He gave me my parents and values. He provided a job and education, a home, memories, nature and the opportunities to experience it, and so much more.
He also gave me a place to lay my burdens. Somewhere to unload the weight of caring for my aging mom and disabled sister, for doing my job, for serving my employer, my church family, and so much more.
That place is at the foot of the Cross. He provided this place because He loves us and He knew, even on that day, that life would be hard at times. He says, “Learn from me. Don’t be too proud of what you’ve accomplished. Remember you did it because I paved the way for you.” He calls us to be humble and when we aren’t, for our own good, He will make us so.
I can tell you the lesson of humility on Jesus’ terms can be painful, even though it comes from a position of love.
So, praise Him because His love is greater than you or I could ever imagine. Praise Him for all that He has for you because He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (Ephes 1:3). Praise Him because He offers them freely to all who believe.
