It's mindful Monday, and today we're talking about It's mindful Monday, and today we're talking about mindful eating. Ya see this little guy, he's focused on one simple thing. That's it. I captured this video on a recent picnic with Mom. I noticed him enjoying this little crab apple while we were enjoying our sandwiches. Mindful eating is just one small way we can begin taking care of ourselves along with our loved one. ⚖️ As a 24/7 family caregiver, I struggled with my weight. When the caregiving load is heavy, it's easy to neglect oneself in favor of caring for your loved one. It's especially easy in the area of food. There were times, as I saw the scale going up (but could be down for you), that I thought, "Who has time to plan meals and exercise? Not me. Not now." 😴 Honestly, I was more interested in finding time to rest, so I ate when and what was convenient. On the other hand, some caregivers may not think about eating and lose weight they shouldn't. 🤔 If I had been mindful about what I was eating, I might have realized that it wasn't good for me, it wasn't the right time to eat, or maybe it didn't even taste that good. 🤗 I'm not scolding myself or you if your caregiving situation has had a similar result. It's just a case of maximizing your time and energy on the right things. Mindfulness doesn't need to happen in solitude or stillness. We can and focus on the present moment, nature, our breath, and movement while walking. For those of us who find it hard to sit still, movement like walking can help incorporate Mindful Moments into our day.
