This is a post for Five Minute Fridays Link-up. It’s a five-minute free write using the prompt provided by our host Kate Motaung. This week the prompt is RISK.
Here goes…
I think we’re all risk-takers at some point. Stepping out the door can be a risk for some, it was for me growing up.
Getting out of bed can be a risk for some, it is for my friend. She suffered a leg amputation years ago and getting out of bed has become a real problem as she ages.
Writing and actually posting is a risk. We can’t please all the people all the time.
What if the topic is big? It’s a bit out of your depth but you feel prompted to write about it. Something you just can’t get it out of your head. Do you avoid it today or will you be strong and courageous despite your anxious thoughts?
I’m doing that now, posting a series on our identity in Christ. I think that’s BIG. Will I risk getting it wrong today, being criticized, or even rejected? Even worse, turning away or confusing even one pre-Christian.
As much as I want to stay safe in my bed some days and hide from my hurts and failures, I’m choosing to be a risk-taker, to live and write in the safety of the Spirit.
Today, I’m a risk-taker. I’ll move forward in strength and courage, but not under my own power.
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Are you a risk-taker or do you live tucked safely under the covers?
…that wasn’t too much more than five minutes.
Thanks to the Girl Scouts of America and their Lemon Cookie (featured image). We opened the box last night and found the box full of cookies with phases like I am Strong, I am Bold, I am a Go-Getter, Leader, and Risk-Taker. Thanks for the motivation. Go Girl Scouts!
Hi! I’m #34 next to you on FMF and loved reading your words and especially the Joshua verse. Like you, I’m a risk-taker with the writing. It’s scary! Thank you for sharing and being real! May the Lord continue to bless your words!
Thanks, Beth. I love Joshua 1:9, too. I’m so glad to have it tucked away to use anytime I’m not feeling so brave.
I love the reminder that as we step out and take risks we don’t go alone but God is with us!
Hi Lesley, Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Yes, I know for sure that I can’t go it alone. I’m so comforted to know that we don’t have to.
They tell me that they think I’m brave,
in a glorious flood of voices,
never knowing I’m a knave
who has run right out of choices.
I do not claim to understand,
why cancer, and why me;
only that I’m dealth this hand,
and joy or misery
and chosen when I play the cards,
so I must play them well,
for even though life’s ending hard
there is one thing to tell:
in living, lose, or dying, win,
aught’s selected from within.
Hi Andrew, thanks for leaving your thoughtful words. God bless you!
